The Divergent Series: Insurgent Movie Review:

Insurgent-Movie-PicturesThe interaction between Tris and Four was the part of the Divergent series that I was most looking forward to, and I had to say, I was only somewhat satisfied with the film. As it was only loosely based on the book, which is good, because I’ve forgotten 80% of what’s written on the Insurgent book and because 40% of them were lost while reading it. (Yes, my imagination for sci-fi books has been deteriorating)

Feature_1Oh well, like every girl, I guess I was really after the couple’s love story and bods instead of the whole plot. Four (Theo) did not really have much scenes and his impact wasn’t as strong as compared to the previous film, but I had to say, his truth serum scene was touching enough to get me at that one.

insurgent-shailene-woodley-theo-james-miles-teller.jpg.pagespeed.ce.xATsVXkEg90yD-ZH8ItHSorry to say, in this film, the antagonist Peter -Miles Teller (I was really tempted to scold him the son of bXXXX at the start) which means he did a pretty good job portraying the role of the self-serving all-around ass. Now I can’t wait to see how Fantastic Four is going to erase my image of Peter from my mind.

kate-winslet-in-insurgent-movie-4As for the ultimate, villainous badass Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet), she’s a pro in that. But somehow, Kate Winslet had the ability to make the audience think that she’s just obssessed with the for-greater-good big aim.

If you are the Divergent series fan, just go catch it. I like the films more than the book. But of course, everything, if not, anything can be better. 🙂

Do You Know?

insurgent mineral codenameThe working title of the project while filming was changed to “Mineral” to prevent spoilers.

Insurgent-2015-MovieThis is the first sequel Kate Winslet has ever done.

insurgent-with-shailene-woodley-and-miles-tellerMiles Teller had such a crush on Kate Winslet in ‘Titanic’,he confesses. “Come on, what 11-year-old boy didn’t have a crush on her in ‘Titanic’?” In this movie, he got a couple of scenes with chief villain Kate Winslet, which was the best part for him in the film

insurgentAfter cutting her hair for the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster for The Fault in Our Stars (2014), Shailene Woodley did not want to wear a wig for Insurgent. In the book, Tris did cut her hair but not as short as seen in the movie.

insurgent amity treeIn the book, the Amity compound is outside the main walls of the city but in the movie, it is inside the walls.

insurgent simulationUnlike the first film, Insurgent is a very loose adaptation of Veronica Roth’s novel, which contains a vastly different plot. For example, neither the cube nor the simulations to do with it were featured in the books.

  2. I’m very excited to watch the second movie. My friends all read the book, but since I was hesitant because of the controversial ending (I’m not putting spoilers here) I decided to stick to the movies. Thanks for the review. I’m looking forward to it.

  3. I like Shailene Woodley hairstyle in this movie, its refreshed with her character. The whole story line is not that exciting. Might give this a miss.

  4. I am really not at all a movie person, catching up instead with films during flight time. This sounds too complicated – I have short attention span 🙂

  5. I actually liked Insurgent better than the book because they handled the plot really well and this one had a better ending than the book. i too was disappointed with the decrease in the couple’s interactions

I didn;t have the chance to watch this on big screen when it was shown here. But would love to have a copy and watch it soon. 🙂 Compiling some movies just hadn’t had the chance to get a copy of this one.

  7. Katrina Centeno

I did not watch this series. I want to read the book first but it seems that I never had the time to read so maybe one of these days, I’ll catch up this movie and see what the fuss is all about.

  8. I’ve never heard of this film before. Not sure why :/ I love miles and only noticed shailene from that movie I can’t remember the name of. Brains not working today

  9. I haven’t seen the first movie but I heard from my mother that it was a good one. I heard it’s almost the same as Hunger Games? Similar concept or story? How true? Anyway, every time I see that girl, I remember TFIOS.

  10. I’ve seen this and it was good, but not as great as the first installment so yeah, I kinda agree with the 3.5 / 5 rating. I learned that they’re already filming part one of the third installment and I hope they do better with it.

  11. I guess I was really after the couple’s love story and bods instead of the whole plot –> LOL!

I can’t blame you, though, heehee. Anyway, I’ve not seen Insurgent. I’m not even sure if it’s been shown yet, it’s something I will watch, though. I watch the first one and I thought it was fairly okay.

  12. I liked this sequel even better than the first one. I read the first book but decided not to read the second book anymore. Interesting you said that this second one was looser-based on the book than the first. I found the first a very loyal version of the book. – Fred

  13. Jason Panuelos

I’m not really a big fan of the Divergent series. It’s pretty crazy though that Kate Winslet agreed to play the villain. Haha! 🙂

  14. I missed the time to catch this movie! wanted to watch it when it came out but just couldn’t find the time. 🙁 but I got a shock when I saw Woodley with that haircut. she really cannot pull such a short cut off.
